Prague Youth Theatre, established in 2011, gives young people the chance to perform in full-scale productions, and provides an opportunity for students to develop a shared sense of confidence, commitment and self-expression.
We teach over 200 students representing 27 different nationalities.
We offer a performance-based learning structure for young actors. Students meet weekly to rehearse and create productions which are performed in December and June. We put equal emphasis on the drama process, and the final product and we are passionate about creating performances that excite and challenge our actors, and showcase their strengths and talents.
Via the London Academy of Dramatic Art (LAMDA) syllabus, we offer exams in Acting, Shakespeare, Devising Drama, Musical Theatre and Public Speaking. Classes take place weekly at our studio in the centre of Prague. Examinations are held in December and June.
A brand new after-school class starting September 2019. Energetic hour-long sessions led by our trained drama teacher will involve a variety of fun drama games, improvisation and movement activities in our studio in the centre of Prague. This course is ideal for children who want to enjoy drama but without the need to commit to a final performance at the end of term.
As education and childcare professionals we understand that children and young people need to make their own decisions and try things out. Therefore, Prague Youth Theatre runs free trial sessions in September and January for all of our performance courses. These sessions are free of charge and there is no obligation to sign up after attending. These are not auditions, we are fully inclusive and have no selection process based on ability. Just come along, have fun and see what you think!
What people say
When I go to PYT on Saturdays it always feels as if I am coming home to a huge family. It simply is a place where you feel at home and are free to express yourself in every way you want.
My three children have been at PYT for years and it has become a large part of their lives. It provides a great social platform for the children to meet friends from outside their school and local community.
At PYT we get the chance to devise and direct scenes, so the performance often becomes a collaborative piece. PYT really helps me develop my confidence and acting skills. It's also lots of fun and the people I got to work with are great.
PYT has given me confidence in terms of being on stage and public speaking, and I enjoy cooperating on plays with other kids from different backgrounds.
PYT is so different from other activities: children have space to investigate and extend their personal limits. For us it was amazing to see how excitement about the new play overcomes shyness and anxiety when being on the stage.
This was my first experience with Prague Youth Theatre and I am now a fan. The capacity of these kids for emotion and expression truly brought the story to life.
With wonderful direction and a strong commitment to craft and storytelling, the Prague Youth Theatre Advanced cast put on a powerful performance on Saturday.
PYT helps me with my imagination and fantasy. I have a lot of fun playing games and preparing a new performance. I’ve met a lot of new friends here.
