Answers to some of our most commonly asked questions
This page may be useful if you are a first time visitor to the site, or if you're interested in finding out more about how we work
Q: Does my child need to have existing acting/performance experience to join?
A: The very fact you are looking at our site tells us you have the 'qualifications' we need! We have never, and will never, insist on previous experience - just a love for, and an interest in learning more about drama and performance.
Q: What’s the difference between your Performance Courses and Drama Gym sessions?
A: Our performance courses take place on Saturdays and lead to productions in December and June, so families will need to commit to being available for as many rehearsal sessions as possible as well as the show dates. Drama Gym sessions are weekly after-school courses for children to play fun drama games, play with improvisation and make friends with no requirement to commit to a final performance.
Q: How can I find out about fees?
A: Please get in touch and we’ll be happy to send you our fees and payment information.
Q: Do you offer any sessions over the summer?
A: Our weekly courses break over the summer but we do offer our popular ‘Play in a Week’ drama summer camp for children aged 8 - 13 years. More information here.
Q: Can my child join when the term has already started?
A: Children can join the fun drama courses at any point during the term. New students can only join our performance and exam courses throughout the month of September and January.
Q: Can my child join the Performance course if we are away for the performance date?
A: Although we try to be as accommodating as possible, it is not possible to join the Performance Course if you are unable to commit to the performance date. Your child might be better suited to our Drama Gym sessions or Exam Courses.
Q: Can I watch the PYT sessions?
A: We hold trial sessions in September and January which parents are welcome to attend. We also offer open sessions in our PYT Juniors classes once a term.
Q: Do you offer any payment plans for fees or scholarship opportunities?
A: Yes, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org for more information
Q: Do you offer a taster or trial class before we sign up?
A: Yes, we offer trial sessions at the beginning of September and January that parents are welcome to attend. These sessions are free of charge and there is no obligation to sign up. These are not auditions, we are fully inclusive and have no selection process based on ability. Just come along, have fun and see what you think.
Q: What if a class is over subscribed?
A: We do have a waiting list if classes become full, however, we will always do our best to accommodate anyone who wishes to join us.
Q: Do you put students forward for auditions/castings?
A: PYT is not a talent agency and, as such, does not put students forward for auditions. We would, however, notify students/parents should opportunities come up that we feel they would be suitable for or could benefit from. You can find details or some of our students who have worked professionally here.
Q: Do you teach singing or dancing?
A: The sessions at PYT are focused on drama, acting and theatre-making. Whilst we do not specifically train students in the disciplines of singing and dancing; movement, physical theatre, dance, voice work, music and singing are all used to develop the young actor's craft. Should a student show an aptitude for dance or song, we would encourage the use of these talents within performances. We also schedule specialist workshops in all areas of the performing arts, including singing and dancing and we offer musical theatre in our LAMDA exam courses. More information here.
Q: Do you teach LAMDA ?
A: Yes, for a supplementary cost, students who are interested in gaining LAMDA qualifications are supported and weekly classes are held after school. Find out more here.
